Johnson Yi Zhang, a native of China, obtained his legal education both in the People¡¯s Republic of China (PRC) and the United States of America (USA), and has been a practitioner in PRC and in USA since 1988 and 1997, respectively.

Mr.Zhang obtained his first law degree, Bachelor of Law (LL.B.), from one of China¡¯s most prestigious law schools, Southwest University of Political Science & Law, Chongqing, PRC.Upon graduation from the law school, Mr. Zhang was admitted to the National Bar of PRC in 1988, and became a practitioner with a Chinese law firm in Chengdu, PRC.Mr. Zhang was selected by the Chinese government to undergo a one-year special training program held in Beijing for lawyers on foreign direct investment in PRC in 1992.

Mr. Zhang received the Peter Ho Scholarship from Indiana University School of Law, which enabled him to pursue his second law degree, Doctorate of Jurisprudence (J.D.), in USA in 1993.After a three-year study, Mr. Zhang graduated from the LawSchool with J.D. degree, and was admitted to the State Bar of California, USA in 1997.

Mr. Zhang has acquired rich experience in international business and legal transactions, including China direct investment, multi-jurisdictional litigation and worldwide intellectual property rights protection.Mr. Zhang had been in association with three major US and international law firms, Chapin, Fleming & Winet, in San Diego, California, USA, Hughes, Hubbard & Reed, LLP, Los Angeles, California, USA and Hong Kong office of Hunton & Williams.Mr. Zhang¡¯s experience in multi-jurisdictional transitions covers a broad range of spectrums, including project development and financing, acquisitions & mergers, joint venture, distributorship, technology transfer and licensing, taxation, corporate, establishing of representative office, labor relation and international arbitration.Moreover, Mr. Zhang has provided his services to a number of major US and PRC auto-makers, airlines, pharmaceutical manufacturers, petrochemical corporations, franchisers, trading companies and telecommunication firms on various business practices and legal issues involving Greater China (PRC, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao), UK and USA.

Mr. Zhang has also actively participated in the legal transaction between China and other countries, especially USA through the provision of legal English training to Chinese lawyers and legal assistants, and has founded the Primer China Legal Translation & Information, Inc. (Lawtran.com) providing the collection, compilation and translation of Chinese and American laws, along with other legal document translation.

Mr. Zhang is the head of the firm¡¯s international practice team and spends his time between Beijing and Shenzhen. With his Chinese and English language abilities, legal education from PRC and USA and his traverse practice experiences acquired in PRC and USA, Mr. Zhang is most capable of serving both Chinese and overseas clients in international business and legal transactions, especially with respect to Greater China.
